GOLD AWARD 2009 INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE MEDIA AWARDS "REDLINES, ORANGE TRACKS AND BLUE STREAKS," in Toy Collector Magazine BRONZE AWARD 2009 INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE MEDIA AWARDS "DIECAST DREAMS," in RoadKing Magazine To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hot Wheels, I penned two articles on the history of the toy car line - one was for RoadKing, a travel magazine, and the other was for Toy Collector Magazine, an online hobby publication. The articles included interviews with Hot Wheels car designers, as well as with Hot Wheels supercollector Michael Zarnock, and with the Hollywood jeweler who encrusted a Hot Wheels car with over $100,000 of diamonds and bling to commemorate the 4 billionth Hot Wheels car ever produced. In June 2009, the Hot Wheels articles received medals - one gold, one bronze - at the International Automotive Media Awards, under the categories of "Print-Entertainment" (RoadKing, Bronze) and "Internet-Entertainment" (Toy Collector Magazine, Gold) The awards ceremony was held at the International Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Mich. GOLD AWARD2008 INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE MEDIA AWARDS "GO! SPEED RACER! GO!" in Toy Collector Magazine Speed Racer, the 1967 Japanese anime that inspired generations of racing fans worldwide, became the focus of an article for Toy Collector magazine. Featuring interviews with surviving voice actors Peter Fernandez and Corinne Orr, as well as with current Speed Racer trademark holder Jim Rocknowski, the article featured a look at 40 years of the adventures of Speed Racer and the coolest car in the world, the Mach 5. In June 2008, the Speed Racer article took a gold medal at the International Automotive Media Awards, under the category of "Internet-Entertainment." The awards ceremony was held at the International Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Mich. This was also the first competitive writing award for Toy Collector Magazine. GRAND PRIZE, OVERALL BEST OF 20032003 TRUCK WRITERS OF NORTH AMERICA HONORS "CONVOY RIDES AGAIN", in RoadKing Magazine SILVER AWARD 2004 INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE MEDIA AWARDS "CONVOY RIDES AGAIN", in RoadKing Magazine C.W. McCall, the advertising executive who penned and later performed the #1 song "Convoy," received four different awards, including three awards at the 2003 Truck Writers of North America awards dinner, held in Louisville, Ky. The article received a Gold Award, as well an overall award for "Best In Magazines," and finally, the grand prize of "Best of 2003." This article featured interviews with several past and present veterans of the Jamobree stage, including Brad Paisley, Doc Williams, and many more. "PATRIOTIC DUTY," Society for International Hockey Research, Vol. III In early 1941, with war raging in Europe, the American Hockey League organized its first-ever All-Star contest, with the best players from the league facing off in a showdown in Cleveland. Information on this contest was thought to be lost; it was recovered in 1995 as part of this article. |
